Elementary Profile(as of Aug. 25, 2009)

Teachers:  12 full-time teachers, 12 specialist teachers, 6 assistants.

Classes: For the 2009-2010 school year there are two classes of 1st grades, 2nd grades, 3th grades, 4th grades and 5th grades, while there is only one Kindergarten class.

Students: 157 students from grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. There are 71 boys and 86 girls representing 21 nationalities (Argentine, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Ireland,  Japan, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, U.K., and the U.S.)
    
Schedule: The NIS elementary school offers a full-day program, starting at 8:30 and finishing at 3:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Thusday and Friday and at 2:00 on Wednesday. A six-day schedule (A-F) rotates within a 5-day week. Students typically spend morning hours on core-curricular work (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science) and spend a good portion of the afternoon with specialist teachers (Art, Music, PE, Japanese, Computer, Library, etc.). Elementary students eat lunch in two shifts – the K-2 students have the first lunch break from 11:00-11:30 and the 3-5 students follow from 11:30-12:00. Students have outdoor recess twice daily, once in the morning and once after lunch.

Admission: To enroll in the Kindergarten for the 2009-10 school year, students must have turned five years old by August 31, 2009 (born between Sept.1, 2003-Aug. 31, 2004). To enroll in the 1st grade, students must have turned six years old by August 31, 2009.
