Teachers: 12 full-time teachers, 12 specialist teachers, 6
assistants.
Classes: For the 2011-2012 school year there are two classes of 3rd
grades and 4th grades, while there are only one class of Kindergarten,
1st grade, 2nd grade and 5th grade class.
Students: 126 students from grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
There are 61 boys and 65 girls representing 23 nationalities
(Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, Holland, India,
Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand, South
Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, U.K. and the
U.S..)
Schedule: The NIS elementary school offers a full-day program,
starting at 8:30 and finishing at 3:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Thusday and
Friday and at 2:00 on Wednesday. A four-day schedule (1-4) rotates
within a 4-day week. Students typically spend morning hours on
core-curricular work (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science)
and spend a good portion of the afternoon with specialist teachers
(Art, Music, PE, Japanese, Computer, Library, etc.). Elementary
students eat lunch in two shifts – the K-2 students have the first
lunch break from 11:00-11:30 and the 3-5 students follow from
11:30-12:00. Students have outdoor recess twice daily, once in the
morning and once after lunch.
Admission: To enroll in the Kindergarten for the 2011-12 school year,
students must have turned five years old by August 31, 2011 (born
between Sept.1, 2005-Aug. 31, 2006). To enroll in the 1st grade,
students must have turned six years old by August 31, 2011.
