VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL (VHS) (One semester or
Year-long)
NIS high school studnets also have the opportunity
to take a limited number of online courses via Virtual High School
(VHS). VHS offers high school courses online and is based in the United
States. It offers more than 150 different courses of study ranging from
elective level, like Perspectives in Health or American Popular Music,
through standard courses, like Academic Writing, to honors and AP
subjects, like AP Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science.
Students are part of an online community with “normal-sized” classes
and have frequent contact with their teacher and fellow students.
Students are required to be involved in a wide range of activities
including group work, discussions, projects and labs.
NIS has a site coordinator who is responsible for
ensuring student success in the program. By helping solve problems as
they arise and by keeping students on task, success is ensured. VHS
greatly broadens student options, often solves schedule clashes, allows
new students to gain specific credits they may need to graduate from
NIS and provides advanced courses of study for students wishing to
further particular interests.
Information on all courses and the VHS program in general can be
accessed at the VHS website: www.goVHS.org.
