Middle School Profile (as of Aug. 25, 2009)

Teachers:  5 full-time teachers, 15 specialist teachers

Classes: For the 2009-2010 school year there are two classes of 7th grades and 8th grades and one class of 6th grade.
Students: 82 students from grades 6-8. There are 31 boys and 51 girls representing 14 nationalities (Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Myanmer, U.K., and the U.S.)
    
Schedule: The NIS middle school starts at 8:30 am and finishes at 3:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Thusday and Friday and at 2:00 on w Wednesday. A six-day schedule (A-F) rotates within a 5-day week. Students alternate on block schedules, with longer periods for integrated core-curricular classes rotating from the morning and afternoon, every other day. The students may have a combined math/science class in the morning, followed by a social studies/language arts class in the afternoon on one day, and then flip to have the math/science in the afternoon the next day.  Students are required to take Japanese as their foreign language, in addition to courses in the fine arts, health, and PE.

Admission: To enroll in the 6th grade for the 2009-10 school year students must have turned 11 years old by August 31, 2009 (born between Sept.1, 1997-Aug. 31, 1998). To enroll in the 7th grade, students must have turned 12 years old by August 31, 2009, and 13 years old for 8th grade.
