Welcome to the Library
About the Library
The purpose of the library program is to provide every student with
the opportunity to become an effective, responsible, independent, and
creative user of ideas and information.
The library offers a quiet environment for study and research. The K-2
classes have a scheduled library period. In conjunction with classroom
curriculum objectives, students are introduced to research skills,
effective search strategies as well as the joy of reading. Grades 3-12
use the library for specific curriculum projects under the guidance of
the teacher and librarians.
The library offers students access to a wide variety of print
resources in addition to online databases, and electronic journals and
texts via the Internet. Students can also access the library's home
page, which offers a directory of helpful web sites.
The Goals of the Library Media Center ensure that students will:
- Define their information needs and identify effective courses of
action to conduct research, solve complex problems and pursue personal
interests.
- Demonstrate a command of information skills and strategies to
locate and use effectively print, non-print and/or electronic resources
to solve problems, conduct research and pursue personal interests.
- Apply evaluative criteria to the selection, interpretation,
analysis, reorganization and synthesis of information from a variety of
sources and formats.
- Use appropriate technologies to create written, visual, oral and
multimedia products to communicate ideas, information or conclusions to
others.
- Demonstrate the responsible and legal use of information resources,
computers and other technologies, recognizing the related social,
economic and ethical issues.
- Enjoy literature as a life-long pursuit.

Recommended books
Book awards are a good starting place to look for great books for
children as well as teenagers. It's hard to select just one or two best
books from the thousands published yearly. The following lists have
been compiled by many different groups, bringing together a wide range
of books sure to appeal to many different interests and abilities.
These should keep you reading!
