Expectations

 

Expectations of the NIS Faculty & Staff

 

  • Commit to a language rich program
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate the curriculum at all levels
  • Practice a student-centered classroom philosophy
  • Utilize technology as a learning tool in the classroom
  • Pursue cross-grade activities and interactions
  • Develop higher order thinking skills in the students
  • Utilize team teaching
  • Become involved in coaching sports or supervising other co-curricular activities
  • Be available to help students after school until 4:00 pm
  • Attend weekly meetings scheduled on Wednesdays
  • Become involved in school-community events
  • Undertake regular professional development

 

 Calendar and Work-day of the NIS Faculty & Staff

 

  • Year begins in mid-August, and ends mid to late June
  • Approximately 180 student contact days, 8-10 professional days
  • School week is Monday-Friday, 8:10am-3:45pm (although arrival and departure times vary with general faculty obligations)
  • Preschool to Grade 5 are self-contained classrooms with an average of 20 students; secondary teachers generally have 5 classes with 4-5 preps.
  • Contracts for instructional faculty and staff are from August 1 to July 31 the following year.
  • New teachers come in under a 2 year contract. After successful completion of the initial contract, teachers are employed under yearly contracts.
