Welcome to NIS
Dear Prospective Teacher,
Thank you for your interest in teaching at Nagoya International
School. With the growing importance of the Nagoya area in our
supportive international community, NIS offers a wonderful opportunity
for professional growth and personal fulfillment for qualified
candidates.
You will find many of the expectations and beliefs that are important
to be a successful educator in our community within this section of our
website. If you are interested in joining our faculty, I encourage you
to carefully read the information contained in the following pages as
well as the rest of our website to better understand the school's
mission, philosophy, educational objectives and benefits package. There
is also some additional information regarding life in Japan and the
school's expectations and conditions of employment.
In the spring of 2010 the school community reviewed and renewed our
Strategic Plan. This process clarified our institutional mission and
objectives. All prospective teachers should carefully review our plan
to ensure professional and personal concurrence and harmony with them.
(See the "Mission" page
on our website or download the PDF: strategicplan.pdf).
All faculty and staff are expected to work collegially toward
realization of the school's educational objectives and mission.
During our strategic review process there was school-wide
participation and conversation about our strengths and areas in need of
improvement. There was unanimous agreement that our greatest assets are
our caring community and our professional teaching staff. Replacing or
supplementing such a very rich and vital resource with talented,
committed and positive teachers must be, then, our highest
priority.
The coming years will be active and engaging ones at NIS, and we seek
highly qualified candidates with experience in contemporary curricular
models and teaching methodologies to move forward with us. In
addition to the ongoing review of curricular alignment with our newly
adopted standards and assessment philosophy, the school became
authorized in May, 2008 to implement the International Baccalaureate
(IB) Diploma Program for high school students and our grade 12 class of
2009-2010 is our first IBDP cohort. NIS also obtained candidate status
in May, 2009 to begin implementing the IB PYP (Primary Years
Program).
I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this brief overview
and the following pages assist you in determining whether you wish to
pursue a position with us. Those of you who do "sign on" can count on
professionally challenging work and a personally rewarding and
enriching stay in Japan.
For those of you who are interested in a possible career at NIS,
please feel free to contact me through the office of the Headmaster by
sending your resume and a cover letter along with all other required
documents listed online
to: working@nis.ac.jp
Sincerely,
Rob Risch, Ed.D.
