- Middle School Expansion Project
- (6.23 - 7.14) Middle school classrooms are being expanded to make room for the recent increase in students and to allow for program expansion as well. Construction workers began as soon as the school-year finished, and the project will be completed before school opens on August 25.
- Farewell, Class of 2008!
- (6.8) The Class of 2008 celebrated the end of their high school careers at the 41st NIS Commencement Exercises. Congratulations to you all and best of luck on your future paths!
- Gr.6 Visits Hiroshima
- (6.4-5) Grade 6 students visited Hiroshima for two days.
- HS Drama Performs "The Red Shoes"
- (6.3) The high school drama class performed "The Red Shoes", a story about a girl and a magical pair of bright red shoes.
- Gr. 7 Visits Shirakawa
- (5.29-5.30) Grade 7 students spent two days in Shirakawa-go, a village in northern Gifu that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Special thanks to everyone in the village who helped make the trip special!
- Famous Middle Schoolers Visit NIS
- (5.21) Famous and "Notable" people from all walks of life came to life at the middle school "Night of the Notables" event, and was a culmination of research on a famous person in history.
- Gr.6 Gardeners Finish Work
- (May-June) The Grade 6 students worked over a period of a few weeks to build and plant a flower-bed at the back of the Wing building. Thanks Grade 6 gardeners!
- Walkathon Walkers Walk for Charity
- (5.18) Staff, students, parents and friends of the NIS community joined with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) for a successful "Walkathon" held at Meijo Park surrounding Nagoya Castle. Over 2,000 walkers walked and 8 million yen raised for local charitable organizations, making it the biggest and most successful yet! Thank you everyone!
- HS Students Build Home in Mongolia
- (5.18-5.25) High school "Habitat for Humanity" students culminated their year of fundraising with a week-long home-building trip to Mongolia.
- HS Boys Baseball Team Repeats!
- (5.16-17) The NIS Boys Baseball team repeated as champions again for the 2007-8 school year. Congratulations Dolphins!
- Elementary Library Sleepover Fun
- (4.25-26) Elementary students took over the school for an evening of fun and games in the library. Thank you parent and staff volunteers for spending the night with us!
- High School Student Council Elections
- (4.25) Candidates gave speeches for seats on the 2008-2009 HSSC after a week of campaigning.
- Japan Day in Grades 2A + 2B
- (4.24) Second graders spent the day celebrating Japanese culture and food thanks to the help of the many parent volunteers.
- NIS Plans for Growth
- On Saturday, April 19, 2008, parents, staff and board members gathered to discuss the future of the school. The event included brainstorming activities and lively group discussions to share ideas and questions relating to growth and the strategic imperatives of the school. Thanks to the input of all involved, the NIS board and the various committees now have blueprints of action items that will provide the framework needed to develop both short-term and long-range strategies for moving the school forward.
- Oliver! Comes to NIS!
- (4.18-19) NIS thespians and musicians put on two incredible performances of "Oliver!" - the musical based on "Oliver Twist". Congratulations to Ms. Frances and Mr. Hughes and all the students after months of hard work.
- Gr. 5 Inventors put on an "Invention Convention"
- (4.10) Grade 5A and 5B inventors took over the library for the annual Invention Convention sponsored by Raytheon. Thanks Raytheon for the continued support of science and invention at NIS!
- PTA Game Night Fun!
- (3.15) The NIS PTA hosted their annual PTA Game Night, full of good food and fun for all! Thanks PTA!
- HS Girls Soccer Finishes Strong
- (3.7-8) The host NIS varsity girls soccer team finished in 4th place at their season-ending tournament, losing close matches 2-1, 2-0 and 1-0 against Canadian Academy, Osaka and MC Perry. The team showed great improvement over last year and the future looks promising! Congratulations Lady Fins!
- HS Drama Performs "Curious Savage"
- (2.21) The high school drama class presented "The Curious Savage" on Feb. 21, 22 and March 3 to packed audiences.
- HS Boys Soccer Team Wins Tournament
- (2.29-3.1) The high school boys soccer team won a four-team invitational tournament, beating strong teams from KyotoIU, MC Perry and Canadian Academy.
- Snow in Nagoya and NIS!
- (2.8) The first winter 2008 snow fell in the Tokai region, with Nagoya getting over 11 cm. in one day. Unfortunately for many interested students, the snowfall happened over the weekend, causing no need for school cancellation......!
- MS Soccer Team "Intl. World Cup"
- (2.16) The middle school soccer team played against a local Brazilian school, a local Korean school, and a Japanese middle school in a series of matches at the fourth annual "Children's World Cup Soccer Tournament" hosted by volunteer Chubu University students. Thanks Chubu U students!
- Gr.5 Visits Gr.2 for Science
- (1.23) Grade 5 students visited 2A to share their science work with the 2nd graders.
- Gr.5 Visits Toyota
- (2.12) Grade 5A and 5B visited Toyota for a day, learning about cars and the production process. Thank you Toyota!
- ECP-Grades 3 Winter Concert
- (12.6) Students from preschool through grade 3 held a matinée "Winter Concert" for students and family.
- PTA Raffle a Big Success!
- (2.20) Thanks to the many organizations and individuals who donated prizes and purchased tickets, the PTA raffle was a tremendous success. See photos here of the final drawing during the elementary lunch. A big thanks to everyone for supporting the PTA!
- IB Pre-Authorization Visit
- (11.16) A representative of the IB organization came and visited NIS to inspect the school as part of our IB pre-authorization work.
- Antigone Visits Gr. 6
- (12.2) Grade 6B performed Antigone just before the winter holiday.
- IB Meeting for Gr. 10 parents/students
- (2.6) NIS held an informational meeting for the 10th grade parents and students to discuss the IB Diploma Programme. NIS is a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme, and the school hopes to be authorized as an IB school from fall of 2008.
- Elementary Drama Performs "Sadako"
- (2.8) After months of rehearsals, the elementary drama club performed "Remembering Sadako", a story about a girl suffering from Leukemia in Hiroshima after WWII.
- Model UN Students @ Singapore
- (11.19-25) 18 high school "Model United Nations" students traveled to Singapore for the 2007 THIMUN Conference, representing Afghanistan, Guyana and Myanmar.
- Charlie's Science Show Travels to NIS
- (11.6) NIS thanks Charlie for visiting NIS and bringing his science magic to grades K-8.
- HS Boys Basketball vs. Kyoto
- (12.15) The Varsity Boys Basketball Team started their season with a game against Kyoto IS, in a tight game that Kyoto won in the end. Special thanks to Mr. Hughes for the close-up photos!
- Lockheed Donates Smartboards
- (2.1) Representatives of Lockheed visited 2B to see one of two new Smartboards in action that were made possible by a generous contribution. THANKS Lockheed!
- NIS Choir Performs at the Marriott
- (12.11) The NIS "Select Marriott" Choir performed in the lobby of the Marriott Associa Hotel with the skyline of downtown Nagoya as their backdrop!
- Super Sports Day 2007!
- (11.3) The 2007 Sports Day was a smashing success thanks to everyone who came out to participate, volunteer and play for the day!
- Gr. 5 Field Trip w/Jpn. Elem.
- (11.2) 5A and 5B went on a joint field trip with Shinmei Elementary School students.
- Gr.8 in the Science Lab
- (1.19) Grade 8 students did some dissecting for two days as part of their unit on hearts.
- Scary PTA Halloween Carnival!
- (10.26) The annual PTA Halloween Carnival was a spooky success
- MS 3-Day Retreat to Inuyama
- (10.22-24) NIS middle school students spent three days and two nights in Inuyama to foster cross-grade relationships and cooperation.
- HS Girls Volleyball Tournament
- The NIS high school girls volleyball team earned 3rd place (out of 10 teams) at the season-ending tournament.
- High School Retreat to Nagano (8.29-31)
- The entire High School headed to the mountains of Nagano to welcome students (and teachers!) new to the high school to start off the year.
- Music Concert for K-8 Students
- K-8 students were treated to a concert featuring works by Mozart, Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Puccini, and J-Pop by "Chubu-Kids-Strings". Thanks Chubu Kids Strings!

- (10.25) Upper elementary students battle it out in mixed-aged groups answering questions based on assigned books in the first battle of the year!
- ECP & Kindergarten Potato Dig
- (10.22) Preschool and Kindergarten students enjoyed a day out in the sun and in the dirt digging for sweet potatoes - a Japanese tradition!
- Visiting Author Reads to Elem Students
- (10.11) A visiting author came and read her story to elementary students and donated her book to the library.
- NIS Curriculum Workshop
- (9.28-29) NIS teachers spent two days examining the school's standards and benchmarks, assessment methods, and documentation.
- MS Boys Baseball Team Plays CA
- Congratulations to the Middle School baseball team for opening the season with a win by defeating Canadian Academy 9-2.
