- O'Barry speaks about Dolphins, "Cove"
- (6.14) Dolphin-trainer turned activist visited NIS and spoke with middle school and high school students about dolphins, the cruelty of capturing dolphins for the sea-park industry, and his role in the academy-award winning documentary, "The Cove". Students were able to hear first-hand about O'Barry's involvement with the controversial movie, and ask a wide-range of questions about the movie, dolphins, the whaling industry, the media's role in Japan, and activism in general.

- Grade 5s Climb for Birds-Eye View!
- (5.27) The grade 5 classes were able to enjoy life in the trees as they visited "Tree Climbing Japan" in the mountains of Seto for a day of climbing and nature walking.
- 11th Annual Golf Tournament a Success!
- (5.30) The NIS Scholarship Golf Tournament was a sunny success for 40 golfers who came out to play in support of scholarships. Thanks golfers and sponsors!
- Grade 7 Visits Shirakawa Village
- (5.26-27) The grade 7 class spent two days in the mountains of Gifu at a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shirakawa, where they had a chance to learn about "Gasho-houses" and plant rice the old-fashioned way!
- Wet 19th Annual Walkathon!
- (5.23) The 19th Annual ACCJ/NIS Walkathon was a WET one....but still, walkers came and the ACCJ was able to raise a considerable amount of funds for local charitable causes. Thanks Walkers and Supporters!
- Grades 3-5 Spend Day at Shinrin Park
- (5.20) Grades 3-5 spent a day outside in the fun and sun at Shinrin Park next door for games and exercise and fun!

- Birdhouse Building in the ELC
- (4.13) After learning more about birds and birdhouses, the ELC Kindergarten got out the hammers and saws and got busy! Thanks parent and administrator volunteers!
- HS Performs "Arsenic and Old Lace"
- (4.8-9) NIS high school students performed the classic "Arsenic and Old Lace" in which a drama critic learns that his beloved aunts Abby and Martha are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family.
- Sakura Come and Go at NIS
- (4.8) The cherry blossoms stayed on their tree branches just long enough after the rain and wind to bring the children out of the classrooms to enjoy the annual spring "sakura" on the NIS campus.
- HS Boys Futsal Tournament @ Osaka
- (4.3) Our HS Boys soccer team won a 3rd place trophy at the season ending Futsal tournament in Osaka. Amazing work Dolphins!
- NIS Students Clean Neighborhood River
- (3.28) A group of NIS students met early Sunday morning on 3.28 to volunteer to clean a neighborhood river with local residents.
- PTA Game Night Fun!
- (4.2) Parents and teachers came together to make an evening of fun and games for students at the PTA Game Night. Thanks PTA! Thanks also to the companies supporting the raffle!
- 5th Grade "Invention Convention"
- (3.18) Thanks to the support of Raytheon, the 5th grade inventors took over the library and presented their inventions to student and parent "investors" at the 2010 "Invention Convention". Thanks Raytheon for your support of this great event!
- NIS Mission Review
- (3.12-13) A group of 25 members of the NIS community - parents, staff, directors/trustees - met for two full days on March 12 & 13 and produced a draft of a new Mission Statement and revised Strategic Plan.
- MUN Students in Beijing for BEIMUN
- (3.10-15) 12 NIS students traveled to Beijing for the BEIMUN conference, representing Uganda, Azerbaijan, Honduras, and Dominica, and other leadership positions. Besides working hard on their resolutions and speeches, the students enjoyed time around the city for shopping and tourist activities.
- Gr. 4 Japanese Play "Momotaro"
- (3.5) The grade 4 students incorporated Japanese “onomatopoeia” into a unit of inquiry focusing on "sound", and collaborated in a production of a traditional Japanese play called "Momotaro", a well known folk tale. Great job grade four students!
- High School Choir Sings in Beijing
- (2.24-2.27) The high school choir spent four days in Beijing to participate in the International Schools Choral Music Society Festival 2010. The Gala Concert was at the Forbidden City Concert Hall the students performed Mozart's Requiem.
- NIS Students Build Home in Thailand
- (2.16) High school students finished their week in Thailand building a portion of a home as part of their Habitat for Humanity program. Thank you to all who supported our students and this family with their new home!

- (2.5) The Elementary Drama Club performed their versions of the classic fairy-tales to a packed audience.

- (2.1) Middle school students had a chance to practice their "shodo" calligraphy in the art room.
- High School Winter Retreat @ Nagano
- (1.13) The entire high school went on their annual three-day retreat, only this time in the winter to take advantage of the snow in nearby Nagano prefecture.
- ELC Winter Concert Cheer!
- (12.18) The ELC Preschool and Kindergarten performed in front of family and friends for their winter concert.
- More Holiday Cheer and Music!
- (12.17) The upper elementary grades were joined by the middle school and high school choirs to perform holiday favorites.
- Ebenezer Scrooge Returns to NIS
- (12.15) Ebenezer Scrooge was joined by other grade 7 friends for their drama production, "A Christmas Carol". Both 7A and 7B presented their versions of this holiday classic.
- HS Boys Basketball @ NIS
- (12.13) The high school boys basketball team also hosted teams from Kyoto and EJ King (Sasebo), losing both in hard-fought games.
- HS Girls Basketball @ NIS
- (12.12) The high school girls hosted teams from Kyoto and EJ King (Sasebo) for two days of games, losing to EJ King but pulling out a victory against Kyoto. Way to go girls!
- Holiday Cheer at the Holiday Concert
- (12.10) The lower elementary grades performed in front of family and friends at the Holiday Concert.
- MUN Students go to Singapore
- (11.16-11.22) 12 NIS high school students participated in THIMUN Singapore - The Hague International Model United Nations Conference for five days of work and a little fun. The main delegation from NIS represented Sudan, and the overall focus for the 2009 conference was sustainable development.
- MS Girls Soccer vs. CA
- (11.20) The middle school girls soccer team played a series of matches against visiting Canadian Academy.
- MS Boys Basketball vs. CA
- (11.20) The middle school boys basketball team played against visiting Canadian Academy, losing in hard-fought games.
- "Ducanto" Taiko Drummers Teach & Perform
- (11.19-20) Alumni Kiyoki Nishio ('03) spent two days teaching students from grades 2-9 and ended with an incredible performance with his group "Ducanto" for students and parents. Thank you Kiyoki!
- Gr. 9 HS Drama perform "Hound of the Baskervilles"
- (11.19-20) Grade 9 students performed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles" with Sherlock Holmes and trusted partner Dr. Watson helping to solve a murder.
- Mississauga Hockey Clinic
- (11.16) NIS was lucky to have Canadian street-hockey players visit and put on an afternoon clinic for elementary students. Thanks Mississauga Hockey team!

- (11.3) NIS held its annual "Sports Day" for preschool through middle school students on a chilly but sunny day. Thanks to all staff, parents and of course students for making the day a fun-filled one full of sports, games and excitement!

- (10.28) The PTA sponsored an International Carnival with a Halloween theme for preschool through elementary students, and featured games in the gym with a global theme of continents. Thanks PTA!
- Middle School Retreat
- (10.14-16) The middle school students and staff went on their annual two-night/three-day retreat into the mountains.
- MS Boys Baseball Team Victorious!
- (9.26) The middle school boys baseball team played games on Wednesday, Sept. 23 against a strong Nagoya Gakuin Jr. High team and Saturday Sept. 26, against Canadian Academy, beating CA in both games. Way to go Dolphins!
- Chubu-Kids Orchestra Performs for NIS
- (9.23) ELC through grade 8 students were treated to a wonderful musical treat served up by the Chubu-Kids-Strings Orchestra.
- Parents Tour Classes, Meet Teachers
- (9.21 & 9.23). NIS parents in all divisions were able to sit in classes, meet with teachers and learn more about their child's program at "Open Houses", held separately for ELC preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school. This year's turnout was high - thank you all who helped make them a success!
- Yummy PTA Potluck Dinner
- (9.11) The NIS PTA hosted their annual family "Potluck", and everyone enjoyed the food and fun. Thanks PTA!
- Welcome Back to School!
- (8.24-8.28) Photos of the first week of school at NIS for the 2009-2010 school year, starting with the opening assembly on Monday, August 28 and ending with photos from the high school "Mini-Retreat" at NIS on Friday, August 28.
